How to Make Degi Karahi, English / Urdu Recipe

Degi Karahi


Chicken – 1 ½ kg
Ghee – 1 cup
Onion – 2 medium
Ginger garlic paste – 2 tbsp
Tomatoes – 1 kg
Yogurt – 1 cup
Red crushed chilli – 1 ½ tbsp
Red chilli powder – 1 tbsp
Turmeric powder – 1 ½ tbsp
Salt – to taste
Garam masala powder – 1 tsp
Fenugreek leaves – ¼ tsp
Fried and ground cumin seeds – ¼ tsp
Fried and ground coriander seeds – ¼ tsp
Black pepper – ¼ tsp
Green chillies, ginger flaks and fresh coriander – for garnishing


In a wok add ghee, and fry chicken or mutton, until light brown. Take it out from the ghee, then add thinly sliced onion and fry until golden brown, then add blended tomato and cook. When tomato water dries out, add ginger garlic paste, red chilli powder, red crushed chilli, black pepper, turmeric powder, salt, garam masala powder and fry well. Then add blended yogurt and mix well. Now add fried chicken along with ½ cup water. Let it cook on medium heat until chicken is done. Then add fried coriander, cumin seeds, fenugreek leaves, fresh coriander, green chilli and ginger flakes, cook for 3 more minutes, and serve with naan.
