Kunna Gosht Recipe

A delectable Punjabi kunna gosht recipe with delicious and authentic taste due to whole spices. 

Kunna Gosht Recipe


  1. Mutton Shanks – 1 kg
  2. Ghee or oil – 150 gm
  3. Sliced Onion – ½ kg
  4. Crushed Coriander Seeds – 1 tbsp
  5. Salt – to taste
  6. Red Chili Powder – 1 tbsp
  7. Yogurt – 400 gm
  8. Turmeric Powder – 1 tsp
  9. Ginger Paste – 1 tbsp
  10. Garlic Paste – 1 tbsp
  11. Black Cardamom – 2
  12. Green Cardamom – 4
  13. Black Peppers – 5
  14. Whole Dried Red Chili – 4
  15. Cinnamon Stick – 1
  16. Cloves – 5
  17. Cumin Powder – 1 tsp
  18. Mutton Stock – 250 ml


  • Heat up ghee or oil and crackle whole spices, cardamoms, black pepper, cinnamon stick, Cloves and whole red chilies.
  • Add onions and sauté till golden brown and then add ginger garlic paste.
  • Then add mutton pieces, coriander seeds, salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and cumin powder, fry till mutton pieces are browned.
  • Now add yoghurt and keep stirring till fat separates from the masala.
  • Then add mutton stock and approximately 400 ml water- Bring the stew to a boil, cover and simmer till lamb is cooked and the gravy becomes thick.
  • Adjust the seasoning and serve hot with boiled rice or tandoori naan.
