Badaun ke Pede

Badaun ke Pede are famous throughout world, though it originated from Lucknow, India. Badaun or Badayun is a city in the north-central Uttar Pradeshstate of northern India. According to famous historians, it was named after Ahir prince Budh. Badaun comes under upper doab of Gangatic plains. On a personal level and having tasted the famous Pedas from Badaun I recall with pleasure, this delicious mithai which any family or visitors coming from Badaun always carried with them.

Badaun ke Pede

Ingredients:

  1. Khoya – 250g
  2. Kewra water – 1/2 tsp
  3. Green cardamom powder – 1/2 tsp
  4. Sugar – 50g
  5. Ghee – 1 tsp
  6. Brown food color – 1 pinch

Method:

  • Take a wok, add khoya, cardamom powder and kewra water.
  • Fry well.
  • Then add sugar, along with brown color and cook until sugar is dissolved completely.
  • Take off the stove, cool a little bit and add ghee.
  • Then make small balls, roll in ground sugar.
  • Garnish with almonds and serve with tea.Badaun ke Pede

  1. thanks for you recipe for Budaun Ke Pede. I tried to make pedas but did not get desired result. I have some questions. 1- is hard khoya right. 2- when khoya is hot sugar should be added to make soft peda. My pedas were soft but stickey. second time I made pedas, they were hard but taste was 90% of Budaun ke Pede. Kindly help me with your recipe and tell me where I went wrong. I am from Budaun and now live in United States of America. Your help will be very much appreciated. regards. SABIR KADRI

  2. should I add a tea spoon ghee with khoya and cook well on medium heat because I did not add ghee in the khoya and the khoya became very grainy. please help.thanks KADRI
