Mirchi Vada is a spicy Indian snack consisting of chili and potato stuffing, served hot with tomato sauce or occasionally with mint and tamarind chutney. Try this Mirchi Vada recipe for Iftari or as an evening snack.
Mirchi Vada Recipe
Ingredients:
- Red chilies (large) – 10
- Boiled and mashed potatoes – 3 medium
- Chopped onion – 1 small
- Cumin seeds – 1/4 tsp
- Salt – to taste
- Chopped coriander leaves – 2 tsp
Ingredients for batter:
- Gram flour – 1 cup
- Salt – to taste
- Baking powder – a pinch
- Red chili powder – 1/2 tsp
- Garam masala – 1/2 tsp
- Carom seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Water – as required
- Oil – to deep fry
Mix together gram flour, red chili powder, garam masala powder, carom seeds, salt and baking powder. Add water to make thick batter.
Method:
- Heat up oil; add cumin seeds and when they crackle, add chopped onion and saute until it turns pink.
- Add potatoes, salt, red chili powder and coriander leaves, and mix well. Set aside to cool.
- Make slit in chilies, and stuff with potato stuffing.
- Dip the stuffed chilies in the batter, and deep fry in hot oil until they are golden brown.
- Serve Mirchi Vada with any kind of chutney or sauce you want, or with tamarind.
