Prepare the Dough:
- In a mixing bowl, yeast, sugar, olive oil and warm water, mx it well.
- Add plain flour, baking powder, salt, yogurt and egg.
- Gradually add warm milk and knead until you get a soft, slightly sticky dough.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 10 minutes.
- After resting, knead the dough once more and divide it into 6 equal portions. Give rest for 10 minutes.
- Roll each portion into an oval or round shape (about ¼-inch thick).
Cook on Tawa:
- Heat a thick-bottomed tawa (cast iron works best) on medium-high heat.
- Lightly wet the back of the naan with water (this helps it stick to the tawa).
- Place the naan on the tawa with the wet side down.
- Cook for 30-40 seconds, until bubbles start forming on the surface.
- Flip the tawa upside down (without removing the naan) so the naan faces the open flame.
- Hold it over direct heat for 15-20 seconds until you see brown charred spots.
- Remove from tawa and brush with butter or ghee.
Serve:
Serve hot with butter chicken, dal makhani, or any curry of your choice.
💡 Tips for Perfect Naan:
Use cast iron tawa for the best results (non-stick may not work as well).
If you don’t have a gas stove, you can flip and cook it directly on the tawa.
For a garlic naan, brush with butter mixed with minced garlic and chopped coriander.
