How to Protect Yourself Against the Cold Wave
Ultraviolet rays brown the skin (UVA) but can also burn (UVB). They are less visible and may cause redness from simple to more serious problems: diseases of the retina, inflammation, premature onset of cataract (clouding of the lens). Infrared rays, which release heat from the sun, heat and sometimes burn the eyelids, corneal drying and causing eyestrain. Additionally, the blue light, difficult to focus on the eye, can also cause eyestrain. It is primarily responsible for the phenomena of glare and some chromatic aberrations (poor color vision) and can cause errors of judgment.
Snow powder and fine sand, the sensation of burning
The sun can cause a triple aggression. First, by its direct irradiation, which varies depending on the season, geographical location and altitude. The second, by reflection of UVA, which changes depending on the nature of the soil. Thus, the powder snow reflects 85% of UVA, for 20% of beach sand will. It is the main cause of ophthalmia caused by the snow. Finally, the third is the glare due to reflection of solar rays, which cause visual discomfort and eye pain. The consequences can be severe: decreased visual acuity, disturbance of color vision and perception of the reliefs.

Mineral or organic lenses become lighter
Mineral lenses (glass) have large optical qualities; they don’t get ruined so easily and do not change with time. Although they are comfortable to wear in town, they are too heavy, even dangerous for sports. Organic lenses, generally polycarbonate, are recommended for sports because they do not break and are three times lighter than glass. With a lower optical quality, they are more easily scratched, except those treated with quartz polycarbonate against scratches.
