Ingredients:

  1. Wild blend rice – 1 cup (mug)
  2. Water – (or broth for extra flavour) – 1 3/4 cup (mug)
  3. Salt – (optional)
  4. Bay leaves – 2
  5. Oil – 1/2 tbsp

Instructions to cook wild rice:

  • In a medium saucepan, combine the rice, water, salt, bay leaves and oil.
  • Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid, and let it simmer for about 25 minutes. Avoid lifting the lid during cooking to keep the steam inside.
  • Once the rice is cooked, remove the saucepan from the heat and let it sit, covered, for 10 minutes. This allows the rice to steam and become fluffier.
  • After the resting period, use a fork to fluff the rice gently. Serve hot.

Tips:

  • For added flavour, you can cook the rice in broth instead of water.
