Spicy and Tasty Shab Daig: Urdu – English
Spicy and Tasty Shab Daig. Shabdeg or Shab daig is a South Asian dish. It is cooked with Turnip and the meat version includes lamb or beef and meatballs. It is considered to be a Kashmiri dish. This dish was left to simmer during the night.
Spicy and Tasty Shab Daig
Ingredients:
- Mutton – ½ kg
- Onion – 2
- Oil – ½ cup
- Salt – to taste
- Ginger garlic paste – 2 tsp
- Red chili powder – 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
- Coriander powder – 1 tsp
- Yogurt – ½ cup
- Fried and crushed cumin seeds – 1tsp
- Ginger flakes – 2 tbsp
- Garam masala powder – 1 tsp
- Fresh coriander chopped – 2 tbsp
- Turnips – 2
- Carrot – 2
Method:
- Prick carrots and turnips and fry in 2 tbsp of ghee, set aside.
- Take a pan, fry onion until golden brown, and take it out of onion.
- Now in same oil, add ginger garlic paste, fry for few sec, then add 1 tbsp of water, red chili, salt, turmeric powder and mutton, fry well.
- Now add coriander powder, cumin seeds and yogurt, fry well.
- Cover and cook until mutton is tender, fry well and add fried vegetables and cook well until vegetables are done.
- Then add fried crushed and meatballs (koftay), cook for 2 more minutes and add some water as you desire for gravy.
- Cover and cook on low heat until gravy becomes thick.
- Garnish with ginger flakes, fresh coriander and garam masala powder.
- Serve with naan or boil rice.
Ingredients for Kofta:
- Beef mince – 1/2 kg
- Whole green chillies – 2
- Onion – 1
- Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
- Salt – 1 tsp
- Roasted chick peas – 1 tbsp
- Fried crushed cumin seeds – 1 tsp
- Yogurt – 2 tbsp
- Fried crushed poppy seeds – 1 tsp
- Garam masala powder – 1 tsp
- Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp
- Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
Method:
- Add mince, salt, onion, red chili, cumin seeds, roasted chickpea, poppy seeds, garam masala and ginger garlic paste in chopper and grind well.
- Then take it out in a bowl and add green chilies, fresh coriander and yogurt, mix well and make kofta shape.
- You can freeze them as well.
