Karela Gosht Recipe is a delicious Pakistani dish using karela also called bitter gourd with mutton or mince meat. In this recipe I show you how to eliminate the strong bitter taste of the karela with very little oil. As we all know how many benefits are in the karela vegetable.

The vegetable, along with the seeds, is not only used for gastronomy, but also for medicinal purposes. This is because they contain substances that would act in a similar way to insulin, helping to lower blood sugar levels, among other benefits. Karela or Bitter gourd is believed to lower blood sugar levels.

Ingredients:

  1. Mutton – 1/2 kg
  2. Karela or bitter gourd – 1/2 kg
  3. Onions – 2 big size, chopped
  4. Ginger – 1 tbsp chopped
  5. Garlic cloves – 2 to 3 chopped
  6. Red chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
  7. Red chilli flakes – 1 tsp
  8. Crushed cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  9. Turmeric – 1/4 tsp
  10. Salt – 1/2 tsp or to taste
  11. Oil – 1/2 cup total or less
  12. Tomato – 1 big or 2 small chopped
  13. Onion – 1 chopped
  14. Green chillies – 2 to 3 chopped
  15. Fresh coriander – 2 tbsp chopped

Keto Pizza

Method:

  • In a pan, add mutton, onion, ginger garlic along with seasoning and water. Cook on medium heat until mutton is tender and the water dries.
  • Cut the bitter gourd, sliced and sprinkle with salt and set aside for about half an hour.
  • Then rinse and squeeze as much water as possible.
  • Heat some oil and fry the bitter gourd to a golden brown.
  • Drain the oil in cooked mutton and set aside.
  • Now add more oil in mutton if needed and fry well.
  • Add the fried onions, tomato, fried bitter gourd and green chillies, cover and cook gently for another five minutes.
  • Garnish with chopped green chillies and fresh coriander.
  • Serve with naan or chapattis.
