You can make Dal-fry with Dhuli Moong Dal, Tuar Dal, Split Masoor, or Chana Dal. But most people like spicy fried chana dal very popular in Punjab.

Spicy Fried Chana Dal

Quick and Easy Dal Fry in Urdu – English


  1. Gram lentils – 1 cup
  2. Onion – 3 thinly sliced
  3. Green chillies – 4
  4. Dry Kashmiri red Chillies – 8
  5. Dry Raw Mango – 8 pieces
  6. Coriander leaves – 1 bunch
  7. Oil – ½ cup
  8. Fennel seeds – 1 tsp
  9. Onion seeds – 1 tsp
  10. Turmeric – 1 tsp
  11. Ginger Garlic paste – 1 tbsp
  12. Ginger flaks – 2 tbsp
  13. Salt – to taste

  • Heat up oil in pan, add onion and fry till golden brown.
  • Then remove and spread on a paper.
  • Wash gram lentils and boil with water as required till just tender.
  • Remove extra water and spread lentil in tray and add turmeric, onion seeds, salt, fennel seeds, Kashmiri red chillies, sliced green chillies, ginger flaks and dry mango, mix well.
  • Now heat ½ cup oil in pan, add in brown onion with ginger garlic paste, slightly fry and add lentils mixture.
  • Fry well. Add in ½ cup water simmer for 5 to 10 minute.
  • Lastly add chopped coriander leaves and serve with chapatti.
