Easy Tiramisu Recipe without Alcohol

Tiramisu is a coffee-flavoured Italian dessert. It is made of ladyfingers dipped in coffee, layered with a whipped mixture of eggs, sugar, and mascarpone cheese, flavoured with cocoa.

Numerous variations of Tiramisu exist. Some use other cakes in place of ladyfingers (savoiardi). Other cheese mixtures are used as well, some containing raw eggs, and others containing no eggs at all. Alcohol can be added in both the coffee and the cheese mixture, used to enhance the taste of tiramisu.

But in this recipe I used cooked egg yolks and no alcohol at all.

Method:

  • The first step is whipping the egg yolks and the 1/4 cup of sugar using a double boiler method with a bowl over a pot of simmering water until they are very thick. Let it cool down.
  • Whisk the egg whites with the 1/4 cup of sugar until you have stiff peaks.
  • Beat whipping cream in a small bowl on high speed until soft peaks form.
  • Add cream cheese in egg yolk mixture and beat well. Then add semi whipped cream and mix it well.
  • Finally fold egg whites gently.
  • Pour the coffee into a shallow dish. Dip in a few of the sponge fingers at a time, turning for a few seconds until they are nicely soaked, but not soggy. Layer these at the bottom of a square 8x8x2 inches dish until you’ve used half the sponge fingers, then spread over half of the creamy mixture.
  • Repeat the ladyfingers and spread with remaining cream cheese mixture.
  • Cover and refrigerate for about 4 hours or until the filling is firm.
  • Sprinkle cocoa over top and serve this delicious, light and creamy dessert.
