Whether it is a wedding, any ceremony or any function in Pakistan, India or in Bangladesh and sweets are gifted to one another, there is one thing that Asian women always do. It is drawing mehndi on their hands. Mehndi is the application of henna as a temporary form of skin decoration.
Mehndi decorations became fashionable in the West in the 1990s, where they are sometimes called henna tattoos.
In the modern era, people generally buy henna cones ready-made, ready-to-use, which makes it easier to apply. However, in rural areas of India, women grind fresh henna leaves on sil (grinding stone), adding oil. Although not as refined as professionally prepared henna cones, they achieve much darker colors.
